Blood Work Came Back

I got a call from the doctor's office today with the results from my blood work. Nothing crazy.

Cholesterol: 200 (this should come down quick)
Good Cholesterol: 34 (needs to be around 40)
Blood Sugar: 87
Kidneys, Liver, potassium levels: all good

One more week to go and the cleanse begins. Me and the wife were going to head to zen-vegetarian for lunch on Monday but they are closed on Mondays. We're going to try again maybe tomorrow. I'm really excited about that place and I hope it's good.

Tempting But Good Day

Yesterday was one of my nephews' birthday so at dinner time we went over to their house for the party. They were serving different types of pasta and breadsticks from Pizza Hut, a salad with creamy dressing and cheese, home made fruit punch and topped it all off with a cake.

I HAD NONE OF IT!

I didn't have the cravings I thought I would but the smells made it difficult. I was more tempted to eat cake than anything else. But day was healthy and gratifying. For breakfast I juiced 3 oranges and ate a banana. For lunch I ate some vegetarian chili my wife made. This was the first cooked meal I'd had all week. I ate a small portion because I won't be able to eat anything cooked during the cleanse. For dinner I had a salad with some organic Goddess Dressing which contained Tahini. It was very good. I drank some juice and had a lot of water throughout the day. I didn't really ever feel hungry, at least not like I had the first couple of days.

My wife is doing Weight Watchers so she's counting points. This morning I had her figure out my points for yesterday just to see. I'm allowed 33 points given my height, weight, etc. I used about 20 points yesterday. I've used 9 today so far. I say this to give a benchmark to those that might understand that system and compare it to how I am eating and how you are eating.

I went to the doctor today to get a baseline for my health pre-cleanse. My appointment was at 9:10. I didn't see the doctor until 10. I like my doctor but I feel like I should bill her for time lost. Checkup went well. I had some blood drawn so they can check all the good stuff. I'm really interested in knowing the results as I've never had blood work done before.

That's pretty much it for now. More tomorrow I'm sure.

Tough Day

I woke up this morning and ate an orange. I've never been a big breakfast person but I knew I needed some energy food because of the change in diet. The orange was the perfect amount to get me to lunch. Lunch was hard. I had a business meeting and they ordered lunch from a sandwich place called Jimmy Johns. The best I could do was a vegetarian sub. It had a bit of mayo and some cheese so I failed their but I am excusing it a bit since I'm not technically on the cleanse yet.

Dinner was a disaster. I made a salad and tried oil and vinegar for dressing. I used way too much vinegar and pretty much had to scrap it. Luckily I had a fruit salad in the fridge. However, I've had too much fruit today and now my tongue feels burned. I tried to eat some pistachios but it hurt my tongue too much. I'm told this is normal so I'm not concerned. But now I'm just hungry.

Finally, for your reading pleasure, this is truly eye opening:

Lunch Today

I decided that I should start preparing myself for the cleanse. I'm really excited about it but I know it's going to be tough. I'm an American boy raised on an American midwest diet which consists of a lot of flesh and dairy. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of guy.

Today I had a small salad for lunch. Organic greens (romaine/iceberg lettuce), organic cucumbers, grape tomatoes, carrots, peppers (green, red, yellow, and orange) some onion, and sunflower seeds. I also have some fruit to snack on later, some dried organic banana slices, and some pistachios. Some of this will be more than I am able to have during the cleanse but I preparing my body by taking in no flesh and no dairy. I don't expect to become a vegan after the cleanse but it is important to eat as clean as possible during the cleanse for the process to be most effective.

I also had a Naked Blue Machine Superfood Juice Smoothie and plan on drinking water throughout the rest of the day. Tonight I am thinking a fruit salad for dinner. We'll see.

The Journey Begins

November 1st, 2009 I will begin a 28 day cleanse. I purchased the kit from Arise and Shine for $240.00. It sounds like a lot but as my friend and healthy living adviser would say, "pay now, or pay later". This blog will chronicle my journey to a healthier way of life. Starting today as well as during each day of the 28 days cleanse I will write about what I ate, how I prepared it, and my over all progress.

Today starts the beginning of a new me. I will spend the next couple of week preparing my body mentally, spiritually, and physically for the journey ahead. I will visit my physician so that I can get a baseline of where my health is now; cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc. At some point after the cleanse I will schedule another visit to see how I've improved. I will chronicle my weight loss, my energy level, anything I can think of that might be of help to those that happen to read this.
